Expanding Youth Shotgun Sports Across the Texas Panhandle

The Texas SCTP Panhandle League is being developed to create more organized clay target shooting opportunities for young athletes throughout the region.

The league will connect athletes, families, coaches, schools, community teams, 4-H and FFA programs, shooting clubs, and regional ranges through safe competition, athlete development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Whether you are an experienced competitor, a young athlete looking for a team, or an adult interested in developing a new program, Texas SCTP is ready to help you find the right path.

Panhandle League Formation Update

Work is underway to build the Panhandle League’s first group of teams and establish a regional tournament schedule.

The Top of Texas Clay Shooters are organizing in the Gruver area, while Texas SCTP continues working with interested coaches, families, and youth shooting leaders in Amarillo, Randall County, Hereford, the Lubbock and Idalou area, and other Panhandle communities.

Texas SCTP is also communicating with Amarillo Gun Club and other regional shooting facilities about future league events. The current planning goal is a five-shoot schedule hosted across two or three ranges. Locations, dates, disciplines, host teams, pricing, and staffing arrangements remain under development and will be posted once confirmed.

Explore Teams and Tournaments

4-H and FFA Athletes Are Welcome

Texas SCTP is designed to complement—not replace or compete with—existing 4-H, FFA, school, and community shooting programs.

Athletes can continue participating in their current programs while also competing through SCTP. Existing teams may retain their local name, identity, coaches, and activities while gaining access to additional organized competitions and athlete-development opportunities.

SCTP participation may provide athletes with:

• More opportunities to compete during the season

• A pathway to league, regional, state, and national competition

• Opportunities to earn awards, recognition, and available scholarships

• Additional experience in trap, skeet, sporting clays, and related disciplines

• Connections with other athletes, coaches, teams, and shooting facilities

Leaders of established 4-H, FFA, school, or community programs are encouraged to contact Texas SCTP to discuss how SCTP participation can work alongside their existing activities.

Interested in Starting a Team?

New teams can be formed by schools, 4-H clubs, FFA chapters, shooting ranges, nonprofit organizations, churches, community groups, or independent groups of families and adult volunteers.

You do not need a large roster to begin. Texas SCTP can help prospective team leaders understand the team-registration process, coach and volunteer requirements, athlete eligibility, insurance, safety expectations, practice requirements, and competition opportunities.
