You can form a team any day of the year.
Target year reset: September 1. After that date, every coach, volunteer, and athlete must renew in the SHOT System so insurance stays active.
SHOT = Scholastic Home On-line Tracking—SCTP’s secure portal for rosters, fees, background checks, and event entry.

Head Coach / Team Admin – creates the team in SHOT and keeps the roster up to date.
Assistant Coaches & Adult Volunteers – register, pay the $40 coach fee, pass a two-year background check, and complete the free SafeSport module.
Athletes – one child is enough to launch; there’s no roster limit.
Practice Range – any gun club willing to host youth shooters.
Athlete Forms – Sportsmanship Contract and Medical Release (coach keeps hard copies; no upload).
Study the SCTP Handbook & Best Practices. The better your athletes know the rulebook, the smoother tournaments will run.

Create your team – Log in and click “Create New Team.” (Cost: $0)
Invite your adults – Use “Invite Coach/Volunteer.” Each adult pays $40 and completes the background check.
Activate the team – In the Team Fees tab, pay the one-time $20 team fee (goes into your MidwayUSA Foundation endowment).
Enroll athletes – Collect the three forms, update profiles, and pay $30 per athlete.
Plan practices – Schedule six team practices; every athlete must attend six before shooting at State or Nationals (competition days don’t count, and no coaching fee for these six).
Tip: Starting in spring or summer? Complete your six practices, enjoy the events, then be ready to renew everyone after Sept 1.

Minimum team size? One coach + one athlete is a fully legal SCTP team.
Coach certification required? Yes—at least one certified shotgun coach (SCTP Basic or accepted equivalent) must supervise every practice and match.
Mid-season startups? Absolutely. Register now; just remember everyone renews after Sept 1.
Where do the fees go? They cover insurance and program costs. The $20 team fee grows your MidwayUSA scholarship endowment.
